Toketee Falls cascades over a columnar jointed cliff-face.
The sound of rushing water grows louder with each step as we approach one of Oregon's most photographed waterfalls. Toketee Falls drops 120 feet over a cliff face of columnar basalt formations, creating a distinctive curtain of water that plunges into a deep emerald pool below.
The trail itself spans approximately 0.4 miles each way making it accessible to both new and infrequent hikers. Though the trail conditions are mostly easy, watch out for rocks and roots that can become tripping hazards. Flights of steps with planks and handrails traverse any rocky areas of trail. The viewing platform at the end of the short trail provides the best way to appreciate the waterfall.

Free parking is available at the trailhead, and if this popular spot is full of cars you needn't worry too much, as the short trip to the falls means the parking area has a high turnover. Also present in the trailhead area is a woodstave penstock pipe that diverts water from the North Umpqua River around the waterfall and into a hydroelectric facility. Built in the 1950s and likely coming to an end of its service life, the many leaks in this pipeline also provide a welcome cooling sprinkler system for overheating hikers.
The North Umpqua Highway is a popular road trip route connecting the Oregon Coast, Interstate 5, and Crater Lake National Park, Following its namesake river deep into Cascadian forests, the many short waterfall hikes (and a hotsprings location) along the way help break up longer car journeys. We feature two very different waterfall hikes on our Trailspotting map—the second of which is Fall Creek Falls, linked at the foot of this article.
