A tranquil lakeside scene with a small wooden dock extending into calm water, surrounded by dense green trees. A red canoe rests on the ground near the dock, suggesting recreational use.
Lowell Lake is ideal for kayaks and canoes.

Forest canopy filters the Vermont sunlight as we circle this peaceful lake on a shaded path that offers only limited views of the lakefront. The trail rarely approaches the lake's edge, and views are restricted throughout most of the journey, making this hike more about woodland exploration than scenic water vistas.

Comprised of approximately two-thirds forest trail and one-third service road, the Lowell Lake loop completely encircles the lake on a trip that's just over three miles long. We took a counter-clockwise route across the dam, visiting the nearby Revolutionary War–era cemetery via a short spur trail and checking out some occasional desire paths to catch glimpses across the lake.

The park's most scenic side may be best appreciated from the water rather than the hiking trail. The State Park facilities at the southwest corner of the lake offer a boat ramp for non-motorized craft, along with a day-use parking area and some temporary restrooms. We also found a remote jetty on the lake’s northeastern banks, accessible via trail from Little Pond Road, but vehicle parking is not available at this location. We've marked this spot on our map, although we note that it's not shown on the official map—even though the jetty lies within the park boundary.
The park's website makes no mention of swimming or paddling at Lowell Lake, though we saw no signs prohibiting either activity. Parking is available at the State Park facilities area, subject to a small day-use fee payable at either the entry kiosk or iron ranger
