A cascading waterfall flows over rugged rocks in a lush forest. Sunlight filters through dense foliage, casting dappled light on the moss-covered stones. The water appears silky and smooth, suggesting a long exposure effect that softens its movement. Surrounding trees frame the waterfall, their branches reaching toward the rushing stream, while vibrant green plants flourish in the damp environment. The scene conveys a tranquil, untouched beauty, highlighting the harmony between water and woodland.
Falls of Song is the last and tallest of the falls.

The Brook Walk trail is situated within the Castle in the Clouds estate in New Hampshire's Ossipee Mountains, near picturesque Lake Winnipesaukee. Following the route of Shannon Brook, the Brook Walk visits no fewer than seven distinct waterfalls. Each cascade has its own character - some plunge dramatically between narrow walk walls, while others spread gently across broader stone shelves.

The Castle in the Clouds is a historic estate that was once owned by a nineteenth-century industrialist. After changing hands and being closed to the public for years, this natural treasure was secured by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust in 2002, ensuring public access for generations to come.

The moderately easy, forested path follows the brook's contours, providing different vantage points of the falling water along its route. Occasionally the path meanders among the trees where you'll have to navigate around some rocks and roots, but this is necessary to get the best views of each waterfall. Fall of Song is the last and possibly most impressive of the waterfalls, and a well-positioned boardwalk helps visitors experience the falls up close.

Hikers can choose between an out-and-back route of Brook Walk or extend their hike by crossing the bridge at Fall of Song and continuing their journey by linking sections of Shannon Brook Trail, Connector Trail and Turtleback Mountain Trail. These moderately easy forested trails introduce additional elevation gain, but offer more tranquility than you'll find on the often busy Brook Walk.

Unlike many trails throughout the Lakes Region that close during mud season, the Brook Walk remains accessible year-round. This offers visitors a special opportunity to witness the waterfalls at their most impressive during spring runoff when snowmelt and rain combine to create powerful flows over the rock faces.

There are several clearly marked parking areas close to the trailhead, all within the grounds of the estate. Hikers looking for a more strenuous trip can consider combining the Brook Walk with a hike to Bald Knob for some spectacular Lake Winnipesaukee views, or continue even further to the summit of Turtleback Mountain. Twin Falls, one of the smaller of the seven falls.

A split-view composition highlighting two distinct aspects of nature. On the left, a waterfall tumbles down a rugged rock face, surrounded by dense green foliage, capturing the movement and energy of flowing water. On the right, a delicate white flower with yellow stamens is in full bloom, accompanied by several unopened buds against a softly blurred background of greenery and blue sky.
Bridal Veil Falls in late spring.

A tranquil lakeside scene with a small wooden dock extending into still water, surrounded by trees and rolling hills. A large, bare-branched tree stands near the shore, its silhouette contrasting against the clear blue sky. Rocks and greenery frame the dock, adding texture to the landscape.
