New England College Covered Bridge.

"The only one on earth" is proudly boasted by the sign as you enter the boundaries Henniker. Fifteen miles to the West of Concord, the town can also boast a picturesque setting, and to be the home of the New England College.

Our trail route around the woodland Northern flanks of Proctor hill bordered by the winding Contoocook River is on land owned by the college, so please be respectful of any activites underway, including by not trespassing on the adventure ropes course that you'll pass by on this property.

Although there is a very large parking lot at the end of Grove Street near the trails, signage prohibits parking anywhere without a permit. We recommend instead parking at Azelea Park and enjoying the river walk and covered bridge crossing to reach these trails.

Trails are wide, mostly flat and free of rocks and mud. There are some river views as you walk down a former railroad alignment. A side-trip on the narrow riverside loop adds a further river views should you wish. These trails are also popular with mountain bikers, although we didn't see any on the day we visited. We've also included a link below which maps out all the trails in this area.

The adventure ropes course is off limits.
